Scholarship Details:

The Blackbird Community Center offers an annual scholarship to a graduating high school senior who is continuing their education. This scholarship is a one-time grant designated to encourage higher education by helping to defray expenses. The award will vary at the discretion of the Selection Committee and the award granted will be made payable to the education institution attended.

Eligibility Guidelines:

  • A senior in good standing attending a school system serving the communities of Blackbird, Middletown, Odessa, Smyrna, or Townsend.
  • Reside within a 10-mile radius of Blackbird Community Center, 120 Blackbird Forest Road, Townsend, Delaware
  • Be accepted to an accredited two-or four-year college or to another program of study/professional training.
  • Entire application and all recommendations are completed and submitted.
    Note: Preference will be given to applicants who have supported the Community Center. (i.e. fundraisers, meetings, dinners, etc.)

Scholarship Award Criteria:

  • Integrity, honesty, and citizenship
  • Financial need
  • Academic performance
  • Community involvement
  • Extracurricular activities

If requested, attend an interview session with the Scholarship Selection Committee.

Application Requirements:

  • 3 Scholarship Letters of Recommendation must be completed by an unrelated adult who is familiar with your qualifications as related to the award criteria above and returned with the application.
    • Please have all recommendations, remarks and letters printed or typed.
    • The application and all supporting materials must be postmarked/submitted by the first Friday in May of the graduation year.
