The James and Nellie Dickerson Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship Overview: Current Appoquinimink School District senior planning to attend college next fall.

Scholarship Details:

The James and Nellie Dickerson Scholarship Fund Committee is currently accepting applications. Our goal is to provide a $500 scholarship each year to a deserving high school graduating student and assist them in continuing their education at a college/university.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Current Appoquinimink School District graduating senior
  2. Planning to attend an accredited college next fall
  3. Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher, computed on a 4.0 system
  4. Must demonstrate a positive persona, maintain a solid academic history in their core classes, and participate in community involvement activities highlighted in their letters of recommendation.

Application Requirements:

  1. Completed application form, must be typed (application available here)
  2. Letter of application addressed to the Scholarship Committee. The letter should contain a brief explanation of career goals and biographical (background) information.
  3. Three (3) letters of recommendations from choice of high school teachers-at least one core teacher, administrators, or counselors, employers, or individuals with significant knowledge of applicant’s experience and involvement.
  4. An official and recent high school transcript with cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 or greater.
  5. Personal Essay
  6. Indicate leadership opportunities, community involvement, and participation in extracurricular activities.
  7. Small photograph

“How have you made a positive difference in your community, school, and family?”

Award Amount: $500

Award Details:

$500 scholarship to a deserving high school graduating senior who intends to pursue a post-high school course of study at either a college, university, or other accredited post-secondary educational institution.
