National Federation of the Blind Scholarship Program (Full-time Student)

Scholarship Overview: Merit-based scholarships for blind scholars planning to attend college full-time next fall

Scholarship Details:

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Must be legally blind (PDF) in both eyes.
  2. Must be residing in the United States, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico.
  3. Must be 18 years of age by July 3 of this year
  4. Must be pursuing or planning to pursue a full-time, post-secondary course of study in a degree program at a U.S. institution in the fall of the year of application.
  5. Must participate in person in the entire NFB National Convention and in all of its scheduled scholarship program activities (finalists will receive assistance to attend the national convention).

  3. One Letter of Recommendation
  4. Proof of Legal Blindness
  5. Transcript
  6. SAT/ACT Scores- high school seniors only
  7. Interview

Selection Criteria- All scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence, community service, and leadership.

Essay Details:

Write 700 words or less. The topic is you. The committee members want to know what sets you apart from other applicants: Who are you? What are your outstanding qualities? How do you handle your blindness? What makes you unique and qualifies you for a scholarship on the national level? We recommend using Arial 12-point font and having someone proofread your essay before you submit it.

Award Amount: $8,000

Award Details:

There are thirty $8,000 merit-based scholarships currently available.
