Overview:

The Dr. Beauregard Napoleon Gupton Memorial Scholarship honors the legacy of Dr. Gupton through an annual $2,000 award supporting a high school senior who has demonstrated perseverance, character, and a commitment to community service. Administered by NU Friendship Outreach, Inc. and the Nu Upsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., this scholarship is designed to assist students who have overcome obstacles and are dedicated to serving others through higher education.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • First in family to attend college (preferred)
  • High School Senior
  • Possibly, but not necessarily, a ward of the Delaware Foster Care System
  • Demonstrated outstanding perseverance
  • Record of noteworthy community service
  • Intention to pursue a degree in one of the following fields:
    • Elementary or Secondary Education
    • Allied Health Sciences
    • Social Work
    • Criminal Justice
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Preference given to students planning to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU)

Application Requirements:

A complete application must include:

  • Two (2) Letters of Recommendation
    • One confirming community service involvement
    • One addressing the applicant’s character
  • A 50-word paragraph titled “How I Think Higher Education Can Prepare Me to Be of Service to Others”
