Naomi Rabb Winston Scholarship in Two-Dimensional Art

Scholarship Details:

The Naomi Rabb Winston Scholarship in Two-Dimensional Art is an annual scholarship in honor of the late Naomi Rabb Winston who endowed the Winston Scholarships, is available through the National Society of Arts and Letters to visual artists ages 16 to 22.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Applicants must demonstrate exceptional talent and promise of future success.
• The scholarship funds are for private study, special training or personal advancement in the applicants’ chosen art fields. The funds can be used for college tuition and required art supplies, but not for housing, travel or personal expenses.
• Scholarship funds are sent to the institution, teacher or program selected by the scholarship recipient. Scholarship recipients have 15 months to use the funds.
• Scholarship recipients may reapply as often as their age allows and are eligible to participate in other NSAL competitions.

Eligibility Requirements:
Applicant must:

1. Be a citizen of the United States. A copy of birth certificate, passport, or naturalization papers must be submitted with application.
2. Be at least 16 years old, but not older than 22 by March 1, 2024.

ARTISTIC REQUIREMENTS

1. The art works must be original and created by traditional methods. Photographs, computer generated imager or computer digital painting and three-dimensional works are “not” permitted.
2. The style of work may be realistic, abstract or expressive.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Applicant must submit a flash drive in jpeg high quality format, images of five (5) works of art done within the past two years. The flash drive must be unprotected and computer friendly. Each image in the flash drive must be labeled with the artist’s name, title and medium of the artwork. The application must show the title, the dimensions of the work and the date it was completed.
2. Works must be two-dimensional and may be on paper, canvas, Masonite, metal or wood panels. Mediums may include pencil, pen, charcoal, colored pencil, watercolor, gouache, tempera, oil encaustic, acrylic, mixed media and original prints created by the printmaking processes.

ADJUDICATION

1. Qualified judges chosen by each NSAL Chapter will be given copies of the age and brief bio of each artist and how they want to use their scholarships.
   2. The judges will select the artwork one or two applicants.
   3. Each chapter will mail the flash drives and application(s) of its finalist(s) and fee(s) to the National Chair before the
   March 1, 2024 deadline.

PROTECTION
1. Care and caution must be exercised in the handling of all flash drives.
2. The National Scholarship Committee reserves the right to reproduce in color or in black and white, the flash drives
of the art submitted by the finalists. The reproduction will be used for educational and/or publicity purposes only.

DEADLINES
1. Contestant applications are due to the NSAL Chapter nearest their homes or schools by February 1, 2024. For

2. Chapters must send the application(s) of their finalist(s) to the National Chair before the March 1, 2024 deadline.
3. Winston Art Scholarship recipients will be announced the first week in April 2024.
