CBC Spouses Performing Arts Scholarship (CBCF Scholarship)

Scholarship Overview: Scholarship for full-time Black scholars pursuing a degree in performing arts .

Scholarship Details:

This scholarship was established in 2000, in honor of the late Curtis Mayfield to ensure that African American or Black students pursuing a degree in the performing arts receive financial assistance. Performing arts include theater, drama, comedy, music, dance, opera, marching bands, etc.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
  2. Be preparing to pursue, or currently pursuing, an undergraduate, graduate or doctoral degree full-time at an accredited college or university. Current high school seniors are also eligible to apply.
  3. Be pursuing a career in the performing arts with an eligible major
  4. Have a minimum 2.5 GPA on 4.0 scale
  5. Exhibit leadership and be active in community
  6. Selected applicants must identify as Black or African American

Application Requirements:

  1.  Complete 2-part online application (must be submitted by 11:59 pm ET by deadline)
  2. Video Response: Personal Statement (not to exceed 3 minutes)
  3. Provide a video of sample work not to exceed 2 minutes (must upload on YouTube platform)
  4. 2 Letter of recommendations
  5. Transcript(s) – must be uploaded directly into Academic Works (application portal)
  6. Resume listing work experience, extracurricular activities, honors, community service and special skills
  7. A recent professional photograph suitable for publication (ie. A graduation or other professional quality photograph in which the dress is formal)
