Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) STAR Scholarship for Women

P.E.O. offers multiple non-renewable $2,500 STAR scholarships to graduating women in their final year of high school.  Scholarships may be awarded to prospective students who exhibit excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities, community service and potential for future success.  STAR Scholarships are given once each year for the ensuing academic year.  Each year the application is available on August 1 due by September 15.  An interview and/or recommendation by a Delaware P.E.O. Chapter is not a guarantee of receiving a scholarship.

Eligibility

A woman is eligible to be recommended for the P.E.O. STAR Scholarship (STAR) provided she:

  • Exhibits excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities, community service and potential for future success
  • Has a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Is in the final academic year of her secondary education and is 20 years of age or under at the end of the calendar year
  • Is a citizen or legal permanent resident of the U.S. or Canada
  • Plans to attend an accredited post-secondary educational institution in the U.S. or Canada, full- or part-time, in the fall of the academic year following high school graduation
  • Is interviewed, recommended by a Delaware P.E.O. Chapter

Application/Selection Process:

  1. Students complete STAR Scholarship Interest form by September 15th each year.
  2. Upon review of the Interest form, eligible students will be contacted to schedule a personal or Zoom meeting.
  3. The Delaware P.E.O. will notify students if they were sponsored by a local chapter and thus eligible to complete an online application.
  4. After notification of sponsorship, sponsored students must complete the online application including: a student profile, student activity charts, original essay not to exceed 700 words, two references and an unofficial high school transcript(through the 11th grade/junior year) must be submitted online no later than 30 calendar days after the online link is sent from the STAR Supervisor with instructions to set up your online account.

P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans and stewardship of Cottey College; and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.

Essay Details:

The essay topic will be provided to students who are nominated by the Delaware P.E.O. Chapter.

Award Amount: $2,500

Award Details:

Notification letters will be emailed by April 30 to applicants who are awarded a scholarship. At the discretion of the recipient, funds may be paid directly to the recipient or to the accredited educational institution. The scholarship must be used in the academic year following graduation or it will be forfeited.
