The Latin American Community Center’s Minerva Marrero Hispanic Scholarship Program (MMHSP) (formally known as the HSRP), provides monetary scholarships for Hispanic Seniors in the State of Delaware to support their post-high school education and/or vocational opportunities. The goal of the program is to open doors for Hispanic students to pursue greater opportunities, inspire pride in our people and heritage, motivate students to work hard, and encourage families to support them.

The deadline to submit applications and supporting documents is February 24, 2023 

ELIGIBILITY: All applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria

  • Delaware Hispanic high school senior

  • Household income must fall within income eligibility range (view income eligibility chart

  • Be at least 50% of Hispanic origin, defined as those persons who have at least one parent of Hispanic/Latino heritage

  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.0

  • If awarded the scholarship, must provide verification by of enrollment in accredited college, university or trade school by July 1st 2023.

Essay Details:

a minimum 500 word personal statement – All applicants must complete a personal statement as part of their scholarship application. The personal statement gives the applicant the opportunity to share their personal stories, and explain how receiving the scholarship funds will positively impact their academic or vocational futures. Personal statements must be at least 500 words and follow proper grammar, spelling and sentence structure.

Award Amount: 3 Tiers – $5,000, $3,000, and $2,000
Award Details:

Award recipients will receive funds that are aimed to help finance their associates, bachelors or trade school tuition. Scholarships will be awarded based on three tiers. Tier 1 recipients will be awarded $5,000 Tier 2 recipients will receive $3,000 and Tier 3 recipients will receive $2,000. Recipients are selected based on their academic achievement, community involvement and financial need. Scholarships will be awarded to students in tiers based on the contents of their application package, and demonstrated level of financial need. Award recipients will be recognized at an award’s dinner in Summer of 2023. Additional information will be made available once scholarships are awarded.

Supplemental material is comprised of: student resume, a minimum 500 word personal statement, student transcript, two letters of recommendation, list of community service (if applicable) and financial documentation. Supplemental material may be submitted via email to LatinCenterScholarships@gmail.com.

Semi-finalists will receive an invitation to interview in person or by Zoom with a member of our selection committee by April 1st. This committee is comprised of community leaders and educators from both the public and private sectors. The selection committee will then choose the scholarship recipients after all interviews of semi-finalists are complete.
