Scholarship Details:

The Atlas Prize is an international essay competition for high school and college students inspired by Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged. Participants are invited to critically examine the novel’s themes—including reason, freedom, ambition, and the morality of business—through original, well-reasoned essays. Finalists earn an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City to present their ideas live, and winners share $155,000 in scholarships and prizes, including a $100,000 grand prize.
Eligibility Requirements:
  • Open to students and young adults ages 16–22 from any country.
  • No U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Applicants must submit an original essay based on Atlas Shrugged and, if selected, participate in subsequent competition rounds
Application Process:
  1. Essay Round – Entrants submit essays responding to challenging prompts requiring deep engagement with Atlas Shrugged.
  2. Oral Exam Round – Semi-finalists participate in interviews to assess their understanding and intellectual independence.
  3. Finals – Five finalists are flown to New York City to deliver short talks presenting and defending their ideas during a live final event.

Essays must be written in English only and be between 800 and 1,600 words in length.

The Atlas Prize offers a total prize pool of $155,000.
First Place – $100,000
Second Place – $25,000
Third Place – $10,000
Fourth Place – $5,000
Runners-up – $1,000 (15 awards)

Choose one of the official essay prompts and submit an original essay by the application deadline.

Finalists will be invited to New York City to deliver a live presentation before a panel of judges.
