Scholarship Overview: Scholarship for full-time undergraduate students attending a Delaware public or private college who intend to pursue a career in education (in a classroom or as a specialist) in specific certifications

Eligibility Requirements:
- Delaware resident for at least 12 consecutive months immediately before the application deadline who demonstrate financial need
- Full-time enrollment in an undergraduate degree program at a Delaware public or private institution
- Must meet your institution’s Satisfactory Academic Policy
- Candidates must complete the online scholarship application and submit the 2026–2027 FAFSA by May 15, 2026.
Students must be studying a career in education (in a classroom or as a specialist) in specific certifications, listed below, identified as areas of need in Delaware schools.
Teacher shortage areas for the 2026–2027 school year are:
- Early Childhood Special Education
- Foreign Language/World Language Teacher
- Immersion/Bilingual Education
- Mathematics Education (Middle level and Secondary)
- Multilingual Learners/Teachers of English Language Learners
- Science Education (Middle level and Secondary)
- Special Education (All concentrations)
Application Requirements:
- Apply online at Delaware Higher Education Financial Aid Portal by May 15, 2026
- The application will ask for anticipated 2026–2027 enrollment information (institution and major). The 2026–2027 FAFSA will be required and collected during the review process.
Please Note – All application materials must be submitted by 4:30pm on 05/15/2026.

Award Details:
The scholarship amount will be determined based on the eligible applicant pool and available funds. The award is not automatically renewable, but students may reapply each year. Recipients are eligible to receive a maximum of four awards. Multiple students will be awarded each year in each of the eligible areas.

In order to apply for scholarships from the DHEO, you first need to Create your Student Account in the Delaware Higher Education Financial Aid Portal (https://higheredstudent.doe.k12.de.us/#registration)
Once you create your Student Account you will be able to apply for available scholarships through the online portal.
Helpful tip: The email address entered in the registration form will become your User ID. All notifications will be sent to this email address. Please make sure you use an active email address that you will check regularly. DO NOT USE your high school email address.
