Scholarship Overview: Creative Scholarship for students in law or graduate studies to celebrate the Constitution

Scholarship Details:

The “We The Future” Contest by Constituting America offers scholarships for law or graduate students through categories including essay, song,  IMPORTANT: Submissions must be entirely the original work of the students, without any assistance of artificial intelligence (AI). Entries will be analyzed by third party software.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a graduate school or law school
  • carrying 9 hours or more
  • seeking a graduate or law degree,
  • age 18 and above.
  • Open to students in all 50 states, D.C., U.S. territories, and Armed Forces schools abroad.
  • Original work is required, though limited AI editing tools are permitted.

Graduate and Law School Students may submit a Short Film or Speech.

All entries that utilize copyrighted music, film clips or photos MUST obtain the proper licensing permissions IN ADVANCE of submitting the entry, in order to be considered.

Submissions due no later than 11:59 p.m. ET May 31, 2026 through the online portal on this site.

• Speech:

Option 1: Explain one Article of the Constitution and give examples as to how it is working or not working to protect our freedoms through the Constitution’s system of checks and balances.

Option 2: How the Declaration of Independence and the concepts embedded (inalienable rights, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and “consent of the governed”) prevent tyranny and preserve our rights.

Thought starter: How do townhalls reflect these principles? What is “consent of the governed” as stated in this sentence from the Declaration: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed”

Speech must be no longer than 20 minutes and no shorter than 15 minutes, video recorded and uploaded to YouTube (640 x 360 minimum, HD preferred) or Vimeo (download enabled). Your entry will consist of the link to your speech, a written copy of your speech, and your signed entry form submitted through the online portal on this site. • Short Film:

Option 1: How are the Constitution’s Checks and Balances Relevant Today?
Option 2: Tell the story of one of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence and how their courage created the great nation we are today.

Must be an original film written and directed by the student. Up to two students may collaborate on and submit the short film. It must be no shorter than 5 minutes and no longer than 10 minutes in length. Short film submissions should be uploaded to YouTube (640 x 360 minimum, HD preferred) or Vimeo (download enabled). Essay Details:

Optional Essay:
Write a 500-700 word essay explaining the following sentences from the Declaration of Independence and explore why it was a groundbreaking concept at the time – and how these words continue – 250 years later – to inspire our country and leaders, with special focus on “consent of the governed.”

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed”

Students may also select to submit a song, STEM, short film, social media video, or PSA.

Award Amount: $200

Award Details:

Awards and Prizes – $2000 scholarship award per winner.
The two winners will be contacted directly through the contact information provided on the Contest Signup Form. Winners will also be announced on www.constitutingamerica.org.

2. Television Appearances (to be determined)
3. Certificate for winning Best Short Film, Graduate/Law School, 2026
4. $2,000 Scholarship Prize (If team submission, prize is split)
